11th Annual Scrabble Tournament

This year we continue our fight against Adult Literacy by hosting our 11th Annual Scrabble Tournament. We are seeking sponsors to help with a tax-deductible gift or money contribution. Your company name will be placed on our website, Facebook page and listed in our program pamphlet.

Last year we helped over 135 people throughout the New River Valley area with tutoring on Basic Reading, Computer Resume Skills and ESL (English as a Second Language) Programs.

You cannot image the thrill our students feel in being able to accomplish something as reading and comprehending for the first time. Many have gone through the education system just barely getting by. They created their own "reading system" so co-workers, family members, and friends would not suspect their problem.

If you'd like to become a valued Sponsor, please contact our LVNRV Program Specialist, Lisa Quensenberry at 540-382-7262 or email her at lquesenberry@lvnrv.org.  You may also donate online!

Our Mission

The Literacy Volunteers of the New River Valley (LVNRV) mission is to foster support, advocate for, and instruct adults in the New River Valley who seek opportunities to achieve greater independence through literacy.

We are a community-based literacy program that provides free one-to-one or small group tutoring (Basic Literacy, ESOL, Digital Literacy, Basic Math) at a location and time that is convenient to both the learner and the tutor. We are a United Way/United Fund Partner Agency and an affiliate member of ProLiteracy.

Illiteracy has become such a serious problem in our country that 44 million adults are now unable to read a simple story to their children
